Vignesh Kumar, a doctoral student at UMK's Doctoral School of Science and Life Sciences, whose supervisor is Professor Ireneusz Grabowski and assistant supervisor is Dr. Szymon Śmiga, has been awarded a grant of PLN 28,000 in the NAWA Prelude Bis 2 competition for the implementation of a foreign internship.
Vignesh Kumar, a doctoral student at the UMK School of Life Sciences, whose supervisor is Prof. Dr. Ireneusz Grabowski and assistant supervisor is Dr. Szymon Śmiga, has been awarded a grant of PLN 28,000 in the NAWA Prelude Bis 2 competition for the implementation of a foreign internship.
The planned foreign internship will be carried out at the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Xiamen University in China, under the guidance of Prof. Pavlo Dral - a world-class expert on the development and use of artificial intelligence methods in physics and quantum chemistry.
The project focuses on using machine learning (ML) tools and artificial intelligence (AI) methods to obtain efficient and as accurate exchange-correlation functions as possible within the framework of density functional theory (DFT). This will make it possible to solve the problem of the excessive numerical cost of ab initio DFT methods (using orbitals-dependent functionals) by developing new classes of density-dependent semi-local and hybrid functionals. Ultimately, this will allow the above methods to be applied to a new much broader class of problems in chemistry and computational physics. Congratulations !!!
