The Centre of Excellence in Astrophysics and Astrochemistry began operations on January 1, 2020 and was created as part of the “Excellence Initiative – Research University” program at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. The Centre consists of employees of the Faculty Physics, Astronomy and Informatics and the Faculty of Chemistry.
The main scientific areas of the Center are astrophysics, quantum chemistry and theoretical spectroscopy, the tangent point of which is an attempt to understand how planets, stars and galaxies arise and evolve from interstellar matter. The Center has two research groups that complementarily describe the life cycle of matter in the Universe: the interdisciplinary group TASQ and the astronomical Galaxy group.
